The Beginning of Lont & Co
Allow me to take you back to 2016, where it all started. Out of sheer curiosity, I found myself wondering: "How do you even make a candle? And how could it be made more "sustainable"?" That question led me to experiment with the tiniest candle I could think of; the tealight.
After testing different wax types, like soy wax and rapeseed wax, I made tealights to support the charity Make-A-Wish. Next, I started creating small candles in glass jars as table decor for my own wedding. Fast forward through two pregnancies, making choices, learning to prioritize,… which lead to officially launching my business in 2020… and here we are today!
Now, in 2025, Lont & Co is a company that focusses on vegetable candles and pottery. Has it been a smooth ride? Not at all. Turning my passion into my work is deeply rewarding and motivates me every single day. It hasn’t been without its challenges, but the freedom, flexibility, and being accountable only to myself? Totally worth it.
Why “Lont & Co”?
The name Lont & Co wasn’t chosen by chance. The “lont” (wick in Dutch) is the beating heart of a candle. Without a wick, there’s no flame, no light, and no warmth. It’s the starting point from which everything spreads.
But a candle is more than just a wick. During my search for the “perfect” wax, I tested dozens of options. Even now, I regularly test new waxes. Currently, I use plant-based rapeseed wax. It’s vegan, GMO-free, cruelty-free, biodegradable, and grown right here in Europe. That’s a part of “Co” in Lont & Co, it represents everything beyond the wick that brings the candle to life. That “Co” is now expanded with pottery, a perfect partner for candles.
Adding Pottery to the Story
About two years ago, I fell in love with pottery, and it’s now an integral part of Lont & Co. Creating small-batch, hand-thrown or handbuild ceramic pieces felt like a natural extension of what I was already doing. Like each candle, every piece of pottery I create is unique.
I focus on crafting functional yet beautiful designs, from mugs to bowls to candle holders to decorative pieces and more. The earthy, handcrafted feel of pottery pairs perfectly with the warmth and light of my candles. Together, they create an ambiance that feels both cozy and intentional.
Every ceramic piece is made with care, love, and attention to detail, just like my candles.
